This week, Huckleberry House officially welcomed our new CEO, Jennifer Sharma. With a strong history of service and advocacy on behalf of youth and families in central Ohio, Jennifer joins us with deep roots in the community and a clear vision for the future.
We sat down with her to hear her early reflections, what she’s learning, and what supporters can expect as we continue Building a Foundation, Together.
First Impressions
What has made the strongest impression during your first week at Huckleberry House?
Having worked alongside Huckleberry House team members in the community before, I came in knowing we have a team of experts in youth services and development. Seeing their passion and commitment firsthand has been both palpable and inspiring.
I’m truly honored to be leading this organization, and deeply grateful to the board and staff for the warm welcome. I appreciate the time, care, and effort taken to make my transition into this role as smooth as possible.
Listening and Learning
You shared that connection and listening would be your top priorities early on. What conversations are standing out so far?
Much of my first week has been spent meeting with staff, getting to know everyone, and having honest conversations about their hopes for Huckleberry House, what’s working well, and where we have room to grow.
We’ve talked about innovation, learning, and the vision we share for the organization over the next few years. The energy and insight have already been so motivating.
To Our Supporters
What would you like to share with the supporters who make this work possible – our donors, volunteers, and community partners?
Huckleberry House is incredibly fortunate to have strong community support from our funders, peer organizations, donors, corporate partners, and volunteers. Your time, care, and resources make our work possible.
We couldn’t do it without you, and we’re so grateful to have you in our corner.
Finding Balance
How are you personally staying grounded during this season of change and new beginnings?
I’m a yoga practitioner and avid walker, and I rely on both practices to stay grounded and reduce stress. I also enjoy spending time with my family, obedience training our dog, and being outdoors.
Looking Ahead
This year’s theme is “Building a Foundation, Together.” How do you see that taking shape as you step into this new role?
Over the next few months, my focus will be on building relationships with our community partners, supporters, staff, and stakeholders to develop a shared vision for Huckleberry House’s role in the community. A part of these conversations will examine the resources required to ensure that young people across central Ohio are connected, empowered, and able to realize a stable future.
Jennifer’s first week reminds us that even in times of transition, there’s strength in connection, curiosity, and shared purpose. As we continue to work to ensure that all young people have a safe place to turn, we’re excited to move forward with Jennifer’s leadership and with you by our side.
Together, we’re continuing to build something strong. Something lasting. Something that starts at our front door.
