Fire stations get Safe Place training

Seeking refuge from her family, the 16-year-old girl walked a mile from Central Crossing High School to the Jackson Township fire station on Grove City Road for help.

Many fire stations, including those in Columbus, are designated “safe houses” for runaways, troubled youths or victims of domestic violence.

But when the Central Crossing student arrived on April 27, firefighters weren’t expecting her and weren’t quite sure what to do. They were unaware of the nationwide Safe Place program.   Read more…
